Rose campion, or in Latin lychnis coronaria, is one of my favourite garden plants. My wife and I “borrowed” some seed heads from a garden on our way back from seeing a total eclipse of the sun in 1999. They were the bright scarlet form at the top of the page. Later we acquired, by legitimate means, the white variety below.

This year we’ve found for the first time a cross between the 2 colours. We’ve got 3 delightful pink centred plants.

Did the cross variety self-propogate in your garden?

Yes it did. I’ll collect seeds from it to grow on. When the RHS ask me to name it I’ll call it after the dogs bottom.
